Under the concept of self-development is almost any activity that aims to improve our skills, no matter whether it is in our professional or private life. Self-improvement can be defined as overcoming the barriers in your head. Making the impossible become possible. Such actions bring us closer to achieving our dream goal. Here are some tips on how to enter the path of self-development

Identify your requirements – start with personal development

Unfortunately this is often the hardest part of the self-development journey. Unfortunately, this is often the hardest part of the self-development journey. There are some important questions you should ask yourself first

  • Who am I? What is most important to me?
  • What do I want to achieve in life? Am I focusing on my family or a successful professional life?
  • What are my goals? Who do I want to be in a year, and what do I want to be doing in my life 25 years from now?
  • How do I envision the changes? Will I accept them?
  • What am I unable to do? What are my strengths?
  • What failures and successes have had the greatest impact on my life?

These are fundamental questions without which you will not begin effective personal development. The answers must come straight from the heart. While searching for the truth, do not be guided by the temporary fashion, popularity of certain professions or what your loved ones expect from you. Write down all the answers on a piece of paper or in an app on your phone

Define relevant competences

Once you have answered the questions above, next you need to define how you will achieve your dream success. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to improve the process

  • What would I like to learn?
  • Do I need someone to help me?
  • What competences do I lack? New studies? Courses?
  • Do I really need all the competences listed? Maybe it is better to focus on one issue?

Remember that competence is not only knowledge, but also skills preceded by practice. Sometimes someone more experienced can help you gain them, so don’t be afraid to ask for help! After all, this is about making your dreams come true

Plan for success

On a piece of paper, write down all the skills you want to acquire. Determine if you can handle them on your own. If yes – you can start planning your daily activities. If not, you need to find a mentor. However, even without one, you can plan your daily task lists. A daily plan will help you not to lose your rhythm. Divide your days into blocks and fill them with tasks. Remember to leave some margin for error, it is impossible to be productive all day long. Work-life balance is extremely important, so don’t give it up

Remember about rest – it is also personal development

Once you know what you need, implement changes in small steps and read interesting literature, you can start to support yourself in your development in a different way. As mentioned earlier, recovery time is extremely important. Focus on physical activity, nurture flowers, paint pictures, and do anything that takes you away from thinking about your abilities. Pay attention to healthy eating, eat nutritious meals, and seek out people who are similar to you. Other people can inspire and suggest incredibly interesting ideas.

Keep a record of all your progress

On your calendar, write down all your successes, even the smallest ones. Did you speak English without stammering? Write it down in your diary. Learned something new about social media? Write it in your notebook. Memory fails, we fail to remember many things, or we diminish their importance. This is not something you should do! Even the smallest achievements are worth noting and recalling in moments of crisis

Don’t hesitate to move on

If the topic you have chosen has really interested you then that is very good. At the beginning of your journey you chose blogs, free courses, trainings, YouTube videos and read books. Now it’s time for more advanced knowledge. Only when you find out that the subject really interests you and you want to develop yourself in it, is it worth spending money on it. Go ahead and take advantage of courses, workshops and tools that will systematize your knowledge

How to start personal development and not get discouraged?

Self-development is the key to success. You can only succeed if you do it regularly and willingly. The acquisition of competences should be in line with you and your real needs. Write down changes, acquired knowledge, read books. At least once a month, reflect on what you have achieved and check it against your dreams. If you have taken a different path than you wanted, don’t be afraid to change it. Time spent on development is never time wasted
