Irrespective of the season, we are often looking for the perfect way to cook ground pork. But there are certain procedures that you need to follow to prepare delicious and juicy pork every time. We’ll cover everything from prepping the pork to the best cooking methods and how to add flavor. By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to create the perfect pork dish every time. So let’s get started!

Season the pork

Before cooking, it’s important to season the pork with a combination of salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices. This will help to add flavor to the meat as it cooks. For best results, combine the seasonings of your choice in a bowl and mix them together. Then, liberally apply the seasoning blend to all sides of the pork. You can use either fresh or dried herbs and spices, depending on your preference. Once you’ve applied the seasoning blend to the pork, pat the seasoning down with your hands to make sure it sticks. Now, the pork is ready to be cooked!

Preheat the oven

No matter what type of pork you’re cooking, preheating the oven is essential. Preheat the oven to the temperature recommended in your recipe or suggested for the type of pork you’re cooking. For ground pork in Crossville, a good starting point is 375°F. If you’re roasting pork shoulder or pork loin, aim for an oven temperature of 450°F. When preheating the oven, place a baking tray on the lower shelf to catch any fat drippings. This will help keep your oven clean and avoid smoking.

Cook the pork in the oven

Once the pork is seasoned, it’s time to get it in the oven. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the pork on a baking sheet or in a shallow roasting pan. Cook it uncovered for 25 – 30 minutes per pound of pork, or until a thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the meat reads 145°F. If you want to give the pork some extra flavor, add some aromatic vegetables like carrots, onions, and garlic to the pan around the pork. This will also help keep the pork moist as it cooks.

When the pork reaches 145°F, remove it from the oven. Don’t forget to cover it with foil to keep it warm while it rests. Let the pork rest for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This resting time helps redistribute the juices in the pork and make it even more flavorful. Enjoy!
