Decorating a house or an apartment can be a pleasure, but it can also be a nightmare if you don’t know what you want. Before starting the renovation, it is worth thinking carefully about what you want to achieve and what effect you expect, and then think about how to achieve it. Choosing tiles seems to be a simple task, but unfortunately, it turns out that there are many important factors to take into account. See how to choose the color of tiles for the interior, where they are to appear

Tiles for the kitchen

The kitchen is the room where it is easiest for the walls to get dirty. This is why tiles are usually placed around the kitchen sink and the stove, as they are much easier to clean than wallpaper or paint

What kind of tiles should there be for the kitchen? Make sure they are definitely meant for the wall, floor tiles have completely different properties and will not work well elsewhere. It’s good that the tiles in the areas that get the most dirt are not smooth, because it’s easier to hide dirt in patterns. By choosing tiles with fashionable patterns, you will save yourself a lot of cleaning

Additionally, you should pay attention to their finish, high-gloss tiles are not the best idea in the sink area, because water and limescale deposits will leave dull, highly visible traces. On the other hand, matte tiles will not work well around a stove, where grease accumulates. So it is best to go for a universal satin finish or different types of tiles, in different zones

The color of the tiles should match the kitchen decor, but skip very light shades that will show any dirt. This way, the kitchen will look clean even if you don’t have time to wash the tiles every week

Tiles for the bathroom

In the bathroom, which is a place full of moisture, any other solution than tiles will end up sooner or later with the efflorescence of mold and mildew on the walls. Ceramic tiles are resistant to water and moisture from the air, making them safe for the bathroom. When it comes to color and finish, bathroom tiles should be light and matte, as water and soap residue is least visible on such tiles. You can’t avoid this type of dirt in the shower, but if you plan your bathroom decor well, washing the tiles every few days won’t be necessary at all

There is nothing worse than black, shiny tiles in the bathroom – they will be forever “decorated” with white, matte stains, and you will not part with vinegar and a sponge. Light, matte or satin tiles, preferably with a marbled or melange pattern, will perfectly hide the deposits that are always present in the bathroom, making the room look clean and tidy, even if you haven’t cleaned it that day.

Floor tiles

The flooring in places such as the kitchen, bathroom and hallway should be resistant to moisture. In the hallway, shoes wet from rain or snow would ruin the panels, let alone the bathroom or around the kitchen sink. Therefore, the floor in these rooms should be tiled. An increasingly popular option are wood-like tiles, which are deceptively similar to panels. It is a perfect solution for the corridor and the kitchen annex, adjacent to the living room. Imitation wood in the form of tiles will create a very smooth transition between panels and tiles.
