So how do I screw in wood fasteners? Drill two holes with different drill diameters and an indentation for the screw head. One hole with a wider diameter is needed to accommodate the threaded part of the screw. The diameter of the other hole must match the diameter of the thin core portion of the wood screw. Also, remember that the wood screw should only be screwed into one part (preferably the bottom board) and the other part should be loose. If the material you plan to screw into is soft or the screw is too short, use a thin drill bit that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw. If the material is harder and you will be using a long screw, the drill bit can be made a little thicker. In addition, if you want a very strong and durable connection, you can also dip a wood screw in glue before screwing it in. On the one hand, the glue will replace grease and make screwing in easier, and on the other, after it sets, it will protect the screw from unscrewing itself. When screwing in wood fasteners, it is also worth remembering that it is better to screw in several smaller screws than one large one.
Another way to properly screw in a fixture is to use rung drills. These are special drills that you use to immediately drill a hole for the entire screw. Using this type of equipment, you need to connect the two parts fastened with a screw and at the same time drill both a hole of the correct diameter and an indentation
And how do we not screw in wood fasteners? First of all, never use a hammer for this! Most often, the fasteners will bend while being hammered into the wood, so it will not be easy to remove such a screw later (if necessary). Also, if you drive them into thin or delicate wood, the material may break.
In addition to the screwing technique, the type of screws you choose is also very important. What should guide you when choosing them? First of all, it’s important that the timber fixings are matched to the dimensions of the parts to be joined. This applies to both the length and diameter of the fastener. In addition, there are sometimes additional criteria, such as aesthetic requirements when you want the fastener not to tarnish the wood with its head.
