Some people believe that hair should be dried with the blow-dryer head down. This theory has many followers, who believe that it will give your hair more volume and bounce. Is this true?
If your hair is dry, brittle, damaged or has split ends, it’s time to take a closer look. The problem is not necessarily a poor diet, the result of illness, but the way we care for our hair right after washing it. Tugging and using too much heat to dry your hair does not leave it in good condition. So how do you do it the right way?
It’s not a well-known fact that blow dryers damage hair, so it’s a good idea to do it as rarely as possible. If we have to use the equipment, it is good not to save money on dryers and buy a good quality one, including with the function of ionization and change to cold air. By some, such drying is even considered healthier than natural
Before you start blow-drying your hair, make sure to wipe it well with a towel to prevent water from running off (the more thoroughly the better). Keeping your hair in a turban for a while will help to avoid unnecessary friction. Before blow-drying gently and thoroughly comb the wet hair, do not tug. This is very important!
Blow-dry your hair in its natural position and not with your head hanging down. The way you hold the hair dryer is also important. The air current should be directed downwards, in the direction of hair growth. We have to hold the hair dryer high up. This is not very comfortable, but it is healthier for your hair
Also remember to adjust the heat properly. Too high a temperature has a negative effect on the condition of your hair. For thicker hair choose a higher temperature, for thin hair about 130 degrees is suitable. Dry your hair evenly.
Blow-drying your hair upside down is very uncomfortable and often causes dizziness. Moreover, the results are not worth it. It may give your hair more volume, but it will also leave it feeling very frizzy. This might even have a negative effect on your hair because it becomes more brittle. The hair cuticles open up, causing gaps and making the entire strand more brittle. This weakens them!
There are various other, less damaging ways to create volume. These include curling your hair with a fat brush near the roots or teasing your hair gently after drying. Blow-drying your hair upside down will indeed lift it slightly from the roots but this method is only for healthy hair and should not be repeated too often. Also remember to blow-dry your hair lengthwise or it will lose its smoothness.
Blow-drying, styling, straightening and curling are all damaging to our hair. You should take care of your hair’s condition, use conditioners adapted to your needs and enrich it with suitable cosmetics and a varied diet. Do not skimp on hair dryers and buy them with ionization. We dry our hair in a natural position, never against the hair.
