First Time at the Airport: A Guide to Proper Behavior and Smooth Take-Off
The washbasin is one of the most frequently used pieces of home equipment, so it is important to purchase a product that will meet our expectations. We suggest what to look for when buying a washbasin.
Kitchen or bathroom?
First of all, determine what tasks you expect your new washbasin to perform. Are you choosing it for the kitchen, where its main function will be washing dishes? Or are you looking for something for your newly renovated guest room bathroom? Your choice should be subject to the concept you establish for yourself. You won’t choose an 80 cm wide washbasin for a bathroom that serves mainly decorative purposes, and a tiny round sink with carved flower patterns for a kitchen.
What shape to choose?
On the market, the consumer can choose washbasins in a variety of shapes, from round to rectangular, ending with models that resemble more contemporary sculpture than functional equipment.
As long as your fixture serves its purpose, what specific shape you choose doesn’t matter as much to its functionality. The sink, which is used for more activities than just washing hands, should be large enough and deep enough, that is, not shallower than 40 cm. This will ensure comfortable use, especially when cleaning large items such as a slow cooker pot or cat litter box. You don’t want to wash a huge pan in a small basin – much less wipe water off the floor that has spilled during this clumsy process.
When it comes to how a sink is installed, they are divided into wall-mounted, countertop, and furniture-mounted. The first group means that the equipment is simply mounted on screws in the wall. This is the solution that you will most often see in old buildings. On the other hand, countertop washbasins are placed – as the name suggests – on the countertop. As a rule, this option results in a beautiful looking styling, which at the same time allows us to keep cosmetic accessories or dishes right next to the source of running water.
With a small space, we recommend choosing a furniture washbasin. Combined with a cabinet, we can use it as a place to hide the sink or a storage compartment for towels or utensils.
Most of the sinks used in homes are single-stall. However, if you live in a house with multiple roommates or just with someone who tends to get up at the same time as you, it may be a good idea to purchase a double sink. It will help you not argue about who goes first at seven in the morning to brush their teeth before going to work.
When choosing the shape of the basin, it is a good idea to first pay attention to the entire interior design of the room, especially when it comes to the bathroom. Compose the whole thing so that no element clashes with each other. The washbasin should match the look of both the mirror and the faucet. If you’re having trouble coming up with a coherent vision for your bathroom, you can find open-air bathroom showrooms where you can see for yourself the various styles that have already been prepared. Seeing the product live will help you visualize the desired result and allow you to choose the right accessories and furniture so that the whole does not clash.
What about the material?
Due to its low production cost and simultaneous durability, the most popular choice is ceramic. This does not mean that you have to limit yourself to it exclusively. In addition to ceramic and metal, which is a more common material in kitchens, possible options include glass, plastic, and wood.
A glass sink or plastic is a great choice for those who like to have designer pieces in their space. Wood is an infrequent consumer choice, which is a pity, because skillfully used it will add charm to even the most poorly decorated room. It will especially go well with arrangements in Scandinavian or Japanese style.
