Chemical repellents can lead to many health problems. Many times they cause nausea, shortness of breath, or headaches. So it is worth paying attention to natural repellents to repel mosquitoes and other insects. You can use them at home and in the garden instead of harmful sprays from the store.

Camphor

This is a natural home remedy that will help you get rid of mosquitoes. Its strong smell repels the mentioned insects. All you have to do is close all the doors and light the camphor. After about 30 minutes, all the mosquitoes will disappear!

Garlic

The strong smell of garlic is effective in repelling the annoying insects. Simply crush garlic cloves, boil them in water and pour them into a spray bottle. Remember to use it in all rooms.

Coffee grounds

Puddles make ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. If you have noticed them around your house or on your roof, pour coffee grounds into them. If they are breeding grounds, the mosquito eggs will automatically float to the surface and deprived of oxygen, they will not survive. This will effectively protect you from mosquitoes.

Herbs

Many herbs naturally repel mosquitoes. You have probably heard of citronella oil, but did you know that lemongrass, cedarwood, basil, eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, rosemary, thyme, onion and calendula also repel these little insects? It’s worth planting the aforementioned herbs around your porch and patio. Importantly, you can not only grow them to repel mosquitoes, they work great in the kitchen as well. Burning the herbs while cooking can significantly reduce mosquito infestation within an hour.

Essential oils

You can find essential oils at most health food stores. Simply dilute a few drops of a carrier oil, such as olive oil or vitamin E, and rub it on your skin

You can also prepare an herbal blend to spray on your skin. Add 25 drops of the essential oil of your choice to ¼ cup of water. Shake it in a spray bottle and spray it on your skin. This is a natural, healthy and effective insect repellent. You can also burn the diluted essential oils outside in an aromatherapy diffuser.

Homemade mosquito repellent

You don’t have to buy toxic liners to kill mosquitoes. You can easily make your own liners by using orange peels. They repel insects in a natural way. Plus, they smell beautiful. You don’t have to inhale toxic chemicals.

Homemade bug spray

The recommended spray will not only repel mosquitoes, but also other insects such as flies. Slice one small onion and one head of garlic. Mix with four cups of water, four teaspoons of cayenne pepper and one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. Spray it in the rooms where you and other household members are most likely to be. This concoction will last for about a week. Remember to store it in a jar with a fitted lid, in a dark, cool place.

You can also try another recipe. Mix a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar, a quarter cup of witch hazel and about 20 drops of any essential oil: rosemary, citronella, tea tree, cedar, eucalyptus or lemongrass. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and shake before each use. Spray directly on exposed skin and insects will stay away.

Lemon eucalyptus and peppermint

When preparing a natural mosquito repellent, make sure it contains oil of lemon eucalyptus. It provides high effectiveness and long-lasting protection.

Also, try peppermint! Combine a few drops of peppermint oil with one cup of water in a spray bottle, shake well and spray on your skin. The chemical compounds in peppermint not only repel blood-sucking insects, but they will also refresh and energize you wonderfully.

Rosemary and Sage

Are you annoyed by mosquitoes hovering over the grill while you’re preparing your meal? Next time put a few sprigs of rosemary or sage on the coals. This will effectively deter the insects.

Catnip

You can use catnip essential oil as a natural insect repellent. You can find it at your local garden center or online stores. Remember to repeat the treatment every 2 hours.
